ESS complements the intermittency of renewable energy produced by wind or solar power generation system. ESS stabilizes the output of renewable energy by charging & discharging irregular and intermittent power which is generated by wind and solar system.

Samsung SDI signed an MOU with ABB, one of the global leaders in power and automation technologies for joint development and sales of micro-grid ESS solution. It has a great significance because Samsung SDI established a foundation to make a leap to be the number one in micro-grid ESS market. We are going to develop and sell the optimized ESS solution using Samsung SDI‘s lithium-ion battery technology together with ABB’s power component technology such as PCS, EMS, etc.
In 2014, Samsung SDI made a final agreement to establish a joint venture with Sungrow in order to penetrate into the Chinese ESS market which has the largest size for a single country. The venture will be established in 2016 and will take charge of development, production, and sales of utility ESS battery packs with the goal of 1st market share in China. Starting with the joint venture, we will make constant efforts to lead the Chinese ESS market.
